Montessori Associations and Societies

There are now many Montessori Associations and Societies, a number of which have excellent websites with content of interest to parents and educators alike.  In addition, most countries have a national Montessori society or association.  The following is an annotated selection of Montessori Associations.  Parents are referred, in particular, to the AMI website for information and articles about the Montessori Method of Education.

The website for the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) contains a wealth of information about Montessori education and the activities of Montessorians worldwide.  The AMI is the "original" Montessori Association founded by Maria Montessori in 1929.  One of its chief roles consists in training Montessori directresses and directors at all levels of Montessori education at a variety of training centers throughout the world.

The Canadian Association of Montessori Teachers exists to provide the opportunity for continuous in depth study of Montessori as a means for continual improvement of Montessori teachers, so as to better ensure the propagation, maintenance and furthering of the rights of the child in society. We also stimulate professional attitudes and maintain the standards of our profession, foster individual and group research in this field, and assist in organizing branches of this Association throughout Canada.

The Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators is a Not-For-Profit Corporation founded in 1977 to support Montessori school administrators in Canada. CCMA offers knowledge and expertise in Montessori school administration and the Montessori Method of education.

The North American Montessori Teachers' Association is a membership organization open to parents, teachers, and anyone else interested in Montessori education. NAMTA provides a medium of study, interpretation, and improvement of Montessori education through its publications, audio-visual collection, electronic communications, conferences, and research and service projects throughout North America and the world.
